Your tour continues into Tuscany's green hills covered in olive groves and vineyards. This is the land of some of Italy's most renowned D.O.C. (quality controlled) wines, such as Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. After a lunch of traditional Umbrian dishes, drive along the shores of Lake Trasimeno to arrive in Assisi, built at the foot of Mount Subasio. Take in the Church of St Claire, St Francis' birthplace, his childhood home and Town Hall Square with its People's Palace and Roman temple dedicated to Minerva. You'll also pay a visit to St Francis' Basilica, close to the ancient city walls, with its magnificent frescoes painted between the 12th and 14th centuries.
Leaving Assisi, you will stop at the town of Santa Maria degli Angeli, named after the church where St Francis died in 1226 and return to Rome approx.7pm. A cultural day out with magical memories to take home with you.
A chance to spend a delightful day out of Rome, to visit Umbria, one of the most picturesque regions of Italy rich in vineyards, olive trees and the famous hill-top villages across the valley. The route is dotted with charming medieval towns such as Spoleto, Trevi, Foligno, Spello and Assisi. Visit to St. Francis Basilica and the Basilica of Saint Maria degli Angeli. Enjoy a pleasant lunch in a restaurant with a typical Umbrian menu. In the afternoon visit Perugia, with its renowned Cathedral.
Return to Rome at approx 7.00 pm.
