In its 2000 years of existence London has had some intense moments. From horrific plagues to catastrophic fires, aerial bombardments to Roman massacres, terrorism, rioting, religious strife to civil war and much more besides. Each of these was met and overcome by the courage and resilience of the capital’s people, and with the conclusion of each terrific chapter London has emerged victorious, and stronger than ever before.
The tour begins at St Paul’s Cathedral where we will appreciate Wren's masterful baroque cathedral and learn about how it rose from the ashes of the Great Fire of London and miraculously survived the Blitz. Our next stop will take in the Guildhall, one of the best preserved medieval halls in England that has seen the trials of some of Englands most notorious medieval criminals (WARNING: You will feel like you are in a Harry Potter Book!). Heading over to the Bank Of England we’ll learn about the emergence of modern finance and its basis in war, as well immersing ourselves in the heart of London's 21st century financial district with its distintive skyscrapers and exciting mix of the ancient and super modern. We will enter the Monument (admission included) - a tower built to commemerate the great fire of 1666 - climb up to the top, where, standing at 200 feet we can take in one of the most amazing panoramic vistas of the capital and witness the scale of the bombardment on London’s East End during the Blitz of WWII.
From the Monument we will take a look at one of the cities most charming 19th century markets before looking at the sight of the world’s first insane asylum, Bedlam. We then move on to explore the cobbled streets and alleyways where Jack the Ripper stalked his victims...
Our two-hour jaunt up and around the city, oscillating between tribulation and triumph will no doubt leave us hungry for peace... and curry!
Whether you are an old hand at Indian cuisine or have never tried it before we are sure you will love the food and authentic “East End” atmosphere of our favourite, family-run restaurant on one of the most culturally eclectic and trendy streets in London. We can dig into a variety of what has now become Britain's national dish: Curry. The three course extravaganza will demystify Indian food and further your delight of the multicultural metropolis that is present day London.
