Description

Do you want to hear one of the greatest stories ever told? Then get on board this Quest for the Holy Grail. This fascinating tour will take you behind the headlines of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and help you discover one of the most fascinating chapters in Scotland's history and one of the world's most enduring mysteries.

We start the tour by crossing into Fife and you will get a chance to see the world-famous Forth Railway Bridge, before you cross a landscape rich in history and hear stories about Scotland's past.

The star of this story is Robert the Bruce, said by some to be the father of modern Scotland. You will be able to see the battlefield of Bannockburn, where Bruce routed the English in 1314, and  visit  historic  Dunfermline, the site of a great Benedictine abbey founded by Queen Margaret in the 11th Century. Walk down the beautiful nave at Dunfermline Abbey to see his final resting place (entry not included) and discover more about his important role in Scotland’s history.

Even if you are not a history buff, you will  find yourself swept up in the excitement of the story, as your guide explains how Scotland fought for its right to be a nation. But there is much more than history to discover. The tour continues westwards, following the River Forth, towards Stirling where you can see the mighty Castle  set high on a volcanic plug overlooking  the city. There is free time to allow for a leisurely visit to the castle (entry fee not included). Inside the Castle you can see the splendid Renaissance Royal Palace of King James V and the magnificent Chapel Royal, where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned in 1543. The views from the castle ramparts are quite stunning.

Passing the battlefield of Bannockburn we will head back towards Edinburgh and the Pentland hills as the tour finishes with the greatest mystery of all. Rosslyn Chapel (entry not included) Is this the resting place of the Holy Grail? Did the Knights Templar build it? No one knows, but one thing is for sure. you will have fun trying to figure out some of the answers.
