Fascinating and under visited archaeological site of Ostia was once the main commercial port and military base of ancient Roman Empire. Situated at the mouth of the Tiber river, the Ostia is only 30 minutes travel from Rome. The journey to Ostia goes all the way to Rome's seaside town, that is also a pleasant journey itself. See the theatre built by Agrippa and Forum built at the centre of the city, II Capitolium, the Temple of Rome and Augustus, the Basilica and the large thermal Baths. Another archaeological marvelous is the House of Diana and Thermopolium, an ancient Roman Bar with marble counter and fresco on the wall. At the end of the Via dei Dipinti, a museum displays some of the ancient sculptural that has been excavated from the earth. Buried for centuries this city of Ostia is remarkable and well preserved heritage. Ostia gives more clear picture about the life of the great Roman Empire.
