Bird Land

Covering about 7 acres the whole landscape has been developed around the River Windrush and the 150 Poplar trees. Birdland is being assisted by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust to re-establish reeds around various aspects of the water habitat to protect the banks from erosion and to encourage wildlife. A new grounds man is now actively working his way through the Park looking at all aspects from wildflowers to evergreen screening for the birds or to isolate picnic areas, of which Birdland have four.

Planting will be an ongoing process that we hope all will enjoy.

The Birds
Birdland house over 500 birds; Flamingos, pelicans, penguins, cranes, storks, cassowary, and waterfowl can be seen on various aspects of the water habitat.
Over 50 aviaries of parrots, falcons, pheasants, hornbills, toucans, turacos, pigeons, ibis and many more. Tropical, Desert and Toucan Houses are home to the more delicate species.
Home to the only King Penguins to be found in England, Wales and Ireland.
There are 17 species of penguin another group of flightless birds designed for speed in water rather than the air.

Desert House
This is habitat situation with vary sparse planting where we keep birds that live in or near arid conditions.
It is not a walk through area like the tropical house, but is viewed from one end where 9 or 10 different species of bird can be viewed.
Ranging from the Desert finch to the Carmine Bee-Eater.

Marshmouth Nature Walk
You can be engulfed in the calm environment of marshland, ponds, meadow, copse and views over the River Wind rush where the Kingfisher is regularly seen.
Bird Land have documented over 50 species of bird, along with frogs, toads, grass snakes, beetles to dragonflies and several species of mammal. There are also hundreds of species of plants from Marsh Marigolds to Alder trees.
There are hides by the river and by various bird feeding stations and interactive sign age to test all ages. The area obviously needs to mature, but  will enjoy this secluded haven to be enjoyed by all ages from pond dipping for school children to a quite seat for contemplation in a small slice of the untouched Cotswolds.
