
The Catacombs
The tour of the Catacomb includes visit to the St. John in Lateran, the mother of all churches. The Papal Arch Basilica of St. John Lateran is the cathedral of the Church of Rome and the official ecclesiastical seat of the Bishop of Rome, who is the Pope. It is the oldest and ranked first among the four Papal Basilicas of Rome. Also visit the Holy Stairs, the 28 steps walked up by Christ in Pontius Pilate's House during his trial. There are holes cut through the marble that are suppose to be Jesus's blood and many pilgrims still mount these steps on their knees. Along the historic Appian Way mount the Cecila Metella and Chapel of Domine Quo Vadis.
Come to the Catacombs, the ancient underground cemeteries that has been used by the Christian and the Jewish communities at Rome. This Christian Catacombs are dated back in to the second century. Most of the Catacombs are located in the suburbs of the city because the Roman law forbade to bury the dead within the walls of the city. There are nearly forty Catacombs discovered and some of them goes to twenty kilometers long and depth of the 20 meter from the land.
