Nottingham Castle

Nottingham Castle - a magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle, with spectacular views across the city. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls.

Nottingham Castle today is a vibrant museum and art gallery housing a vast collection of silver, glass, decorative items, visual arts, paintings and Nottinghamshire Archaeology and History. The galleries also bring the best regional, national and international artist's work to the City. Nottingham Castle is 10 minutes walk from Nottingham City centre, with easy access from train and bus stations. Parking is close by. The Castle is a great place for children, with interactive displays,and an activity - led gallery bringing paintings to life, specifically for the under 5's plus a medieval - style playground in the grounds with covered picnic area.

October - February Open Tuesday - Sunday* 10am - 4pm (last admission 3.30pm)
*Except 24 - 26 Dec and 1 Jan
March - September Open Tuesday - Sunday 10am - 5pm (last admission 4.30pm)

FREE entry Tuesday - Friday for Nottingham city residents and those who work within Nottingham city. Please bring proof of status (e.g. Citycard, library card, council tax statement, employment ID badge or letterhead from employer confirming employment in the city). Excludes Bank Holidays and special events.

Tickets give joint admission to Nottingham Castle and The Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard (situated approximately 5 minutes walk away on Castle Boulevard)

How to get here
By car: Follow signs from M1 for Nottingham city centre, then follow brown tourist signs.

Please note, we are starting work to restore the main gates at the Castle from 4th Jan 2010. Work is expected to take between 6 – 10 weeks. During this time we will be unable to accommodate any vehicular traffic. This also means that we cannot provide any parking for disabled drivers during this period.
On foot: 10 - 15 minute walk from Nottingham city centre or train station.
