Preston Hall Museum
Built by David Burton Fowler in 1825, Preston Hall began life as a Georgian gentleman's residence, located between Yarm and Stockton.
It was not until 1882, when the estate and lands were sold to Robert Ropner for the princely sum of £27,500 that the building we see today was born.
Standing in over 100 acres of magnificent parkland, Preston Hall was built in 1825. It was opened as Stockton's first public museum in 1953. Situated on the A135 - Yarm Road, Stockton, the museum is well sign posted.
With 100 acres of parkland overlooking the River Tees, a range of permanent attractions and an exciting programme of special events & activities, a visit to Preston Park offers a great day out for all the family.
The Hall & Park was served by legions of staff, from a butler and cook, through to maids and stable hands. Gardeners would tend the grounds and supply the kitchen with produce from the walled garden, the remains of which can still be seen today.
At the centre of the Park is the Preston Hall Museum with displays of art, armour and social history. Visitors can discover life in the home since the hall was built in 1825 and stroll back in time along a typical local street of the 1890s.
