Tate Liverpool

Tate Liverpool is situated at Albert Dock, amongst the largest group of Grade 1 listed buildings in Britain. Tate Liverpool has established itself as the home of the National Collection of Modern Art in the north of England.
Tate Liverpool presents displays of work from the Tate collection alongside special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. The special exhibition programme, presented on the Gallery’s fourth floor, brings together works from national and international collections, both public and private.

Since the gallery opened in 1988, Tate Liverpool has presented over 150 different exhibitions and collection displays of work by hundreds of different artists, some seen for the first time in the UK at Tate Liverpool. The Gallery has become a venue for major exhibitions of important modern art, with a popular appeal that have drawn thousands of visitors to the Gallery. This has led to a more diverse audience base and increased levels of visitor participation and appreciation.

Learning at Tate Liverpool:
A key part of Tate Liverpool’s work is delivered by the Learning team. Through a varied programme of activities for a wide range of audiences, the Learning team broaden participation and engagement whilst increasing knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts.
Since April 2007 over 160,000 people have visited Tate Liverpool to engage in an education activity, while over 20,000 people have participated in outreach projects beyond the Gallery walls.

Open Tuesday – Sunday, 10.00–17.50
Closed Mondays (except Bank Holiday Mondays)

June–August
Open Monday – Sunday, 10.00–17.50
Last admission to special exhibitions is at 17.00

During August we will be open late, Thursday – Saturday until 21.00
Last admission to special exhibitions is at 20.00

Seasonal closures
Closed on Good Friday and 24, 25 and 26 December.

GETTING HERE:

On Foot:
Approaching from the Strand, turn onto the Salthouse Dock opposite the Hilton Hotel. Continue straight on passing the Pumphouse
Inn on the right and the Maritime Museum on the left.
The quickest route to us is across the Hartley Bridge. This bridge can sometimes be closed to pedestrians with very little notice to allow boats into the Albert Dock. These closures are generally only for a short time.

By Bike:
Bike racks are located in the Mermaid Courtyard, adjacent to Tate Liverpool.

By Train:
The nearest train station to Tate Liverpool is James Street Station (720 metres approx.).
Mainline rail tickets to Liverpool Lime Street Station are valid for travel to James Street Station.

By Bus:
Liverpool ONE Bus Station on Canning Street is directly opposite the Albert Dock, approximately 365 metres from Tate Liverpool. Route C4 also stops at the Albert Dock.

By Ferry:
Mersey Ferries from Seacombe and Woodside on the Wirral call at the Pier Head (960 metres approx.). Access from the Pier Head to the gallery is via the Strand.

By car:
To get to Tate Liverpool, follow the brown signs to the Albert Dock.

Drop off / Pick up point
A drop off / pick up point is situated on Hartley Bridge. You need to arrange in advance to use this point, please contact The Museum for details.

By Coach:
Coach parking is available at the Kings Dock Car and Coach Park.

By Air:
Fly to Liverpool John Lennon airport from a number of European destinations. There is a regular bus service (Route 500) from the airport to the city centre. Alternatively you can take a 20-minute taxi journey to the gallery.
