The legendary Military Tattoo is set in the illuminated esplanade of Edinburgh Castle – a truly fitting location! A fabulous performance by members of the British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and International military bands, the Military Tattoo involves music, dance, display, drumming and colourful costumes!
Almost a thousand participants perform on the cobbled esplanade, emerging from the huge castle gates to play stirring pieces of music. The year 2016 bring the theme ‘Tunes of Glory’ which pays tribute to Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday. The rousing and glorious tunes of Scotland’s famed regiments are the delight of the crowd.
Look out for appearances from the New Zealand Army Band and Lochiel Marching Drill Team, in the company of His Majesty The King's Guard from Norway. See the Imps Motorcycle Display Team alongside the Royal Jordanian Armed Forces Band and Drill Team.
Watch Massed Pipers and Drums, the Bands of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, cultural troupes, singers and the Lone Piper. The unforgettable spectacle is brought to an emotional and poignant close each evening as a lone piper, spotlight high on the castle ramparts, plays a haunting lament. Called 'the most spectacular show in the world', the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is enjoyed by a huge international TV audience in over 30 countries!
On a Saturday, the Military Tattoo is followed by a fireworks display over Edinburgh. This wonderful tradition is the perfect end to your day in Scotland.
