The day dedicated to the Patron Saint of Ireland is a cause for celebration all over the UK. The city of London holds a special St Patrick’s Day parade on the Sunday closest to St Patrick’s Day (in 2016 it’s 13 March) that passes Piccadilly Circus, Whitehall and The Ritz. On that same day, there is a festival in Trafalgar Square which has stalls selling Irish food, children’s activities and entertainment in the form of Irish dancing, comedy and traditional Irish music.

On the day itself, the 17th, many pubs will be decorated with Irish flags, leprechauns and shamrocks; it’s traditional to drink Guinness, eat Irish food like Irish Stew, bacon and cabbage, listen to traditional Irish music and, most importantly of all, wear green!
