York’s Chocolate Story takes you on 75-minute fully guided and interactive journey through York’s 4000-year-old rich chocolate history. 

Discover the origins of York’s founding confectionary families and their exquisite creations, while you sample the finest, ethically sourced chocolate from York and the rest of the country.

Uncover fascinating facts about York’s most renowned chocolate brand, KitKat and learn the mind-blowing number of fingers produced a year and why the Japanese love them just as much as we do. 

In the tour, you’ll also visit the virtual chocolate factory and find out how cocoa beans are transformed into silky smooth chocolate, and you’ll become a Master Chocolatier in no time as you learn the art of chocolate-making and create your own delicious hand-made chocolate.

With three floors of interactive exhibits awaiting, you’ll be sure to unwrap plenty of secrets and enjoy lots of chocolatey treats.

  • Tickets may be cancelled or amended with 48 hours prior notice.
  • Children under the age of 4 are free of admission charges.
  • If you are late for your tour, an alternative tour is not guaranteed.
  • Those with allergies should be aware that the chocolate is produced in an environment where nuts may be present.
  • Nut free, dairy free and gluten free chocolate is available on request.
  • The tour is wheelchair friendly.
  • Only working assistance dogs are permitted but please arrange it in advance of your visit. 

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Sunday 10:30am - 4:00pm (Tours run every 30 minutes)
  • 1st Sept onwards tours will not run from Monday to Wednesday
  • Tours do not run on the 24th, 25th, 26th December and 1st January
