Does January in London just make you want to curl up and hibernate until April? Those long, hot summer days lounging on the grass in Hyde Park seem like a lifetime away and instead we have dark nights, chilly mornings and not a Christmas light in sight.

It can be tempting to shun the outside world and concentrate on the January sales or other strictly indoor activities. What if we told you that you can get in touch with nature in the capital without freezing your socks off? There are some great indoor London gardens boasting lush green vegetation and blooming plants year-round. From hot houses at Kew Gardens to ornate roof gardens with stunning views of the city, you’re never far from a hidden oasis in London.

If you want to visit any of the places mentioned, tickets for Kew Gardens or the Sky Garden  can be booked online in advance. Entry to the Barbican Conservatory and Avery Hill Winter Garden is free, but check opening times before you make the journey.

Which of these glorious gardens takes your fancy?
