Description
The Pirates exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich explores piracy and the changing depictions of pirates through the ages. From comical characters such as Captain Pugwash and Captain Hook to the weirdly lovable Captain Jack Sparrow, you can dive deep into what makes pirates so renowned and how their presence has captured the interest of people for centuries.
The real history of pirates is complex and fascinating. This exhibition follows the global history of piracy from the South China Sea to the coast of North Africa and explores the impact of modern piracy and the issues facing seafarers today.
You can learn about real-life figures such as Edward 'Blackbeard' Teach, William Kidd, Anne Bonny and Mary Read and explore the costumes from famous films such as Pirates of the Caribbean. The exhibition also houses more than 200 remarkable objects from cutlasses to treasure that chart the story of piracy around the globe for you to marvel at.
Have your questions answered in detail and get a better understanding of the life pirates lived. Did pirates bury treasure, or wear eye patches? Did they all have a parrot on their shoulder, or make traitors walk the plank? Find out this and so much more at the Pirates exhibition at the National Maritime Museum.
