Visit one of the finest residences of London, the Apsley House. Apsley House was the home to the Duke of Wellington. Apsley House was originally designed and built by Baron Apsley .The Duke of Wellington is famous for defeating Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Apsley House is also known as the “Wellington Museum”. Apsley House is a treasure trove of pictures which belonged to the Hapsburg and Bourbon kings of Spain. It also includes masterpieces by Italian painters such as Correggio and Giulio Romano, and works by Spanish 'Golden Age' artists including Velázquez and Murillo. It contains some 200 of the finest art collections in London, with paintings by Velazquez and Rubens as well as a wonderful collection of silver and porcelain.
Another popular name for Apsley House is the 'Number One London'. It is one of the most interesting visitor attractions in London. The interior of the house has changed very little since the days of the Iron Duke. A comfortable seating area has now been created in the Inner Hall, where visitors can browse through leather-bound albums of images of Wellington, his descendants, and Apsley House.
