The Gallery underwent extensive refurbishment and expansion to celebrate The Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 and was reopened by Her Majesty on 21 May that year. More than 50,000 people visit the Palace each year as guests to banquets, lunches, dinners, receptions and the Royal Garden Parties. The East Front of the Buckingham Palace contains the well-known balcony on which the Royal Family copulates to greet the crowd outside.

The Buckingham Palace is used for the many official events and receptions held by The Queen, the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every year. Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms. These include 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. In measurements, the building is 108 metres long across the front, 120 metres deep (including the central quadrangle) and 24 metres high.

Royal events and ceremonies hold a powerful fascination. Some of the most colourful and exciting events of the year include the Changing of the Guard, Royal Ascot and Trooping the Colour. One of the main attraction of Buckingham Palace is the ceremony of Changing the Guard or Guard Mounting, which is the process involving a new guard exchanging duty with the old guard. When The Queen is in residence, there are four sentries at the front of the building. When she is away there are two. At Buckingham Palace, Guard Mounting takes place at 11.30 am.
