Golden Tours Help Line

Chislehurst Caves

Miles of mystery and history beneath your feet, just a short way from central London. Over 20 miles of dark passageways hewn by hand from the chalk, deep beneath Chislehurst. Experienced guides take you on a 45 minute lamplit tour and tell stories of Druids, Romans and Saxons. See the tunnels which were famous as a shelter during WW2, the Caves Church, Druid Altar, Haunted Pool and much more. Tours leave hourly from 1000-1600.

A short walk from Chislehurst station (regularly served by trains from London Bridge and Charing Cross) lurks this amazing subterranean maze of caves. The results of 8000 years of digging, these dark mysterious passageways are over 20 miles long and were originally carved out in the search for flint and chalk.

Visitors to the caves are led around the labyrinth by lamplight, escorted by experienced guides. Among many of the underground delights are The Caves Church, Druid Altar and Haunted Pool.

Facilities include a gift shop, restaurant and ample parking. Evening group tours, children's tours, and specialist speakers can be arranged.

The entrance to the caves is in Caveside Close, near the Bickley Arms public house.
