Gagosian Gallery Davies Street
The Gagosian Gallery in Mayfair is a tiny space, what estate agents would optimistically call bijou. But size isn't everything and Larry Gagosian's influence should not be underestimated. He may have started out selling posters near the UCLA campus in Los Angeles but he soon graduated to selling works of art to blue-chip companies and made a name for himself. The Gagosian has shown important contemporary artists at its locations in the UK, US and Italy. This is one of two venues in London, with the larger space at Gagosian 6-24 Britannia Street being in the newly regenerated King's Cross area. Notable artists represented by the Gagosian include Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Rachel Whiteread, Jake and Dinos Chapman, John Currin and, most recently, Jeff Koons. A popular Damien Hirst show held in 2000 (in their Chelsea gallery in New York) attracted an impressive 100,000 visitors.
