The Asia House corporate programme is ‘a forum for regular economic and political updates from British and foreign diplomats’. It includes lectures, seminars and major conferences, is achieved through working closely with Asian heads of mission in the UK, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK Trade & Investment and our corporate members. The main goals are to increase awareness of the latest political and economic developments and to promote active business linkages. It also includes Corporate Programme Involvement, Venue hire and Past Corporate Events. The Cultural Patrons are a group of Asia House supporters who are particularly interested in Asian culture and like to play a more direct role in supporting the work we do. As a Cultural Patron, you would be closely involved with one of London’s rising cultural organisations and could participate in its future initiatives and join like-minded people who share your passion for Asian culture. Most importantly, you would be supporting the work that Asia House does through its public and members’ programmes to foster an understanding of Asian cultures and economies. It will podcast the Asia House Festival of Asian Film. The Asia House venue at 63 New Cavendish Street is a splendid Grade II* listed building, originally planned by Robert and James Adam on the Duke of Portland’s Marylebone Estate in the 1770s. By 1775, however, the Adams’ attention had turned to the creation of Portland Place, and neo-classical architect John Johnson took over the site, erecting the magnificent townhouse that has now been redeveloped as Asia House. ‘The building’s interior is Adamesque, with filigree plasterwork, classical paintings and elaborate marble chimneypieces’. Then there is the Asia House Café – located within Asia House’s beautiful Georgian headquarters and open to the public – is the ideal place for a morning coffee, an afternoon tea or a light lunch with wine or Asian beers. The Asia House Gallery delivers four exhibitions a year, each accompanied by a related programme of lectures and events for the general public, schools and community groups. Exhibitions at the Asia House Gallery have displayed a broad range of art drawn from 30 Asian countries, crossing borders and continents. Partnerships with key organisations, curators and collectors, nationally and internationally, have led to exciting new interpretations of the arts of Asia. The Asia House also conducts education and workshops in schools and colleges, communities, Birkbeck courses etc. They provide a lively, engaging and interactive education programme for primary and secondary schools and colleges. It can be tailored to match all key stages and particular subject and curriculum areas – for example, art, citizenship, English, drama, design & technology. Education at Asia House is designed to enrich and enliven each educational establishment’s own curriculum while opening up exciting new avenues for learning about Asian culture, history and religion. A wide variety of methods are used to explore and investigate: discussion, observation, varied practical art sessions, activity sheets, creative writing and more. Access to Asian artists allows students to enter a wider creative dialogue involving a broad interplay of ideas and inspiration.
