Scotland Street School Museum

Scotland Street School was designed by Glasgow’s most celebrated architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and was a functioning school up until 1979. Now a museum, it tells the story of education in Scotland over a hundred years, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century.

The museum is a must-see for Mackintosh fans; the building is a wonderful example of his architectural style, and includes a Mackintosh room where you can study the architect’s designs for the building.

Scotland Street offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. See what school days were like in the reign of Queen Victoria, during World War II, and in the 1950s and 60s, in our three reconstructed classrooms, and hear ex-pupils and teachers reminisce about their own school days.

The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and fun family events, and visitors can enjoy refreshments and browse for souvenirs at the Willow Café and Gift Shop.
