COLLECTIONS

Garman Ryan Collection:
The gallery is the home to the distinguished Garman Ryan Collection, donated to the Borough in by Lady Kathleen Epstein (nee Garman) in 1972. It consists of 365 works of art with many three dimensional works. Two remarkable women created this collection: Kathleen Garman, lover and later wife of artist Jacob Epstein, and her life-long friend Sally Ryan, a talented sculptor.
Together, they formed an art collection that is intimate, adventurous and eclectic, reflecting their wide ranging tastes from many different cultures from around the world.

The Garman Ryan Epstein Collection
The Garman Ryan Epstein Collection was formed in 1996 with the intention of creating a partner collection to the Garman Ryan Collection that is a closed collection.  The Garman Ryan Epstein Collection contains over 30 art works by artists closely related to the Garman Ryan Collection, in particular works by Sir Jacob Epstein, which have been purchased, bequeathed or donated to The New Art Gallery Walsall.

The Permenant Collections:
The Walsall Borough Art Collection started in 1892 and now contains over 1,700 art works historic and contemporary, collected through a series of donations, bequests and purchases.
Many of the art works relate to Walsall and its people. There is a large group of late Victorian paintings, prints and drawings acquired through gifts and donations, by artists such as W.P. Frith, Thomas Faed, Frank Holl, Briton Riviere and Charles Shayer
