Tuckers Maltings
Edwin Tucker's was founded in 1831 at Ashburton, on the edge of Dartmoor trading as Maltsters and Seed Merchants. Today, it remains one of the oldest surviving independent agricultural companies in Britain. We continue our agricultural and seed merchanting in Ashburton and Crediton with the addition of our Tuckers Country Stores.
Tucker's Maltings in Newton Abbot is one of only a handful of malt houses still producing malt in the traditional way and the only one in England that is open to the public for regular guided tours.
It was John Parnell Tucker, Edwin Tucker's eldest son who selected the site for the maltings in 1898. Work began on it's construction in January 1900 and officially opened for business on Monday the 5th November 1900. The final cost was £8000.
For the last 175 years Edwin Tucker's have specialised in supplying top quality seeds to West Country farmers as well as animal feeds, fertilisers and other agricultural requirements. It have also developed a special interest in horticultural and garden seeds and now supply thousands of customers by mail order all over the country and beyond.
