Art Collection
The University of Hull Art Collection is a small but outstanding collection specialising in paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints produced in Britain 1890-1940.It includes works by Beardsley, Sickert, Steer, Lucien Pissarro, Augustus John, Stanley Spencer, Wyndham Lewis and Ben Nicholson as well as sculpture by Epstein, Gill, Gaudier-Brzeska and Henry Moore. The Camden Town Group and Bloomsbury artists are particularly well represented.

Also on display are two collections of Chinese Ceramics on long-loan from Dr and Mrs Peter Thompson, Hong Kong.
One is an important collection of over a hundred blue and white blanc de chine Transitional Period (17th century) works. The second provides over 120 choice examples from the Tang to the Qing dynasties (c.618-1850).

VISITORS INFORMATION:

The Art Collection is open Monday - Friday, 10.00am - 4.00pm
closed on Bank Holidays and between Christmas and New Year

It is also open before art lectures and during the interval of certain music recitals in the Middleton Hall.
The Collection is displayed in two galleries downstairs in the Middleton Hall, on the main campus of the University of Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull.

Gets involved with the collection
Friends was launched in 1988 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Art Collection established by the late Malcolm Easton in 1963. The Collection's existence is due in large measure to the generosity of its numerous donors. The purpose of the Friends is to bring together supporters of the Collection and to assist in the purchasing of works and other special projects. Since its creation the Friends have helped make possible several major purchases for the Collection.

Friends will receive the following benefits:
Invitations to the private views of exhibitions (with complimentary wine) and special openings of the Collection
Advance notice of all Art Collection and associated events
Discount on exhibition catalogues and greetings cards
The basic membership subscription for the Friends is £5 a year.  This covers both individuals and couples.

There are also the following other categories of membership:
Students — £2.
Benefactors — those subscribing £10 or more a year who will receive additional benefits as appropriate.
Life Membership — £100.
