Description
Go on a magical journey through theatrical history at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, the oldest theatre on the same site in the world. Nestled in the heart of Covent Garden, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane has survived tragedy, fire, bankruptcy and even murder.
Uncover over 350 years of history, mystery, thrillers, and killers with a guided tour in English. Immerse yourself in the birthplace of the musical, modern pantomime, moving scenery, regular rehearsals, and naturalistic acting, in our beautifully renovated theatre.
After the tour, head to the art deco-inspired bar and lounge, to feast on scones and unlimited loose-leaf tea. Hosted in the elegant Grand Saloon, under sparkling chandeliers, ornate ceilings, and fine art the specially crafted menu by the baker to the stars, Lily Vanilli, includes warm, golden scones with salted whipped butter, cream, and jam.
Did you know that the theatre has been visited by every British Monarch since 1660, so where better to experience a quintessentially British custom? The spectacular afternoon ritual started in 1840 when Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford described a ‘sinking feeling’ around 5pm. She requested that tea, bread and butter, and of course, cake be brought to her room. This quickly became a daily habit, eventually spreading across the upper circles – and truth be told, who wouldn’t say yes to a slice of cake and another cup of tea?
The afternoon tea at Theatre Royal Drury Lane is not one to be missed. Surrounded by Regency grandeur and exquisite treats, it makes for an unforgettable experience and the perfect treat for any occasion.
