Description
Fan of the hit TV show, Outlander? Then this is the tour for you! The Outlander, Palaces & Jacobites Experience starts in Edinburgh before heading north across the Firth of Forth towards the Tuilyies Standing Stones. Much like the ones featured in Outlander, they are used as markers of where travellers can pass through and travel in time. Dare to try?
For those who don’t end up in another dimension of time, you will continue towards Culross Village, where you can enjoy a picturesque village and one you will recognise from Outlander. In the show, it features as Claire’s herb garden and the Mercat Cross in the fictional Cranesmuir Village.
Next, you will continue towards Doune Castle, which is used as Castle Leoch in Outlander, the seat of Clan MacKenzie. Before passing Stirling Castle and then heading towards the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow, where you can stop for lunch and visit the palace. With its impressive grounds and stunning surroundings, you can step into the world of Outlander once more, as it is used as Wentworth Prison in the show.
You will then travel to Blackness Castle, used in Outlander as the set for Fort William. Enjoy the amazing scenery before hopping back on the bus for your final stop of the tour.
In the summer months, you will continue to Midhope Castle – the 16th-century townhouse used as the backdrop to Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s family home. Snap some pics and explore the area. The winter tour will continue to the Forth Bridges. Spanning three centuries of Scottish engineering and innovation, the structures connect the Kingdom of Fife to the Lothians and serve as a vital transport link for the country.
The tour will then return to Edinburgh, where it will end.
