Description
Start your day discovering the best of Westminster on foot, with an introductory guided tour that takes in some of London's most iconic landmarks. You'll have plenty of opportunities to snap photos of the London Eye, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and the magnificent Westminster Abbey, before heading down Whitehall, the historic avenue home to many of the UK's government buildings.
A short walk down Whitehall brings you to the star of the show, the original underground bunker that served as Britain's secret wartime headquarters during the Second World War. Preserved almost exactly as it was left in 1945, the Churchill War Rooms offer a rare and fascinating glimpse into life at the heart of the war effort. Walk through the same narrow corridors once paced by Winston Churchill and his ministers, and step into the Cabinet Room, where they gathered to make the crucial decisions that shaped the course of the war.
In the Map Room, the walls remain covered with original maps, pins and notes used to track Allied and enemy troop movements across Europe, leaving a haunting snapshot frozen in time. Explore the simple bedrooms used by staff, the tiny kitchen that kept the operation running, and even Churchill's own private room, complete with his desk and personal belongings, offering an intimate look at the man behind the legend.
