Description
Visit Blenheim Palace, the birthplace and ancestral home of Winston Churchill and the Dukes of Marlborough, and on selected days explore the Churchill War Rooms or the enchanting Cotswolds.
Blenheim Palace
A monumental house with 2,000 acres of beautiful parkland, Blenheim Palace is the only non-royal and non-religious country house in England to hold the title of Palace. Explore the incredible building and gardens, enjoy access to The Churchill Exhibition, and learn about Life Below Stairs.
Built in 1705 and 1722, Blenheim Palace is the birthplace of the 1st Duke of Marlborough’s descendant, Winston Churchill, whose life and achievements are commemorated in a permanent exhibition in the suite of rooms in which he was born. After exploring the Palace, head outside for a stroll in its landscaped Park, designed by the renowned Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
Churchill War Rooms, London (Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday until October 2026)
Visit the original underground bunker that served as Britain’s secret wartime headquarters during World War II. Left almost exactly as it was in 1945, walk through the narrow corridors, see the simple bedrooms used by staff, the tiny kitchen, and even Winston Churchill's private room with his desk and personal belongings.
See the Cabinet Room, where Churchill and his ministers met to make crucial decisions, and the Map Room, with maps still covered with pins and notes tracking troop movements across Europe. Group entry to Churchill War Rooms is exclusive to Golden Tours.
The Cotswolds and Cream Tea at Blenheim Palace (Monday, Friday & Sunday, July to October. Wednesday, Friday & Sunday, November to March)
Enjoy a leisurely journey to the world-famous Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Explore the historic hillside town of Burford, known as the Gateway to the Cotswolds, which has an array of tea rooms and independent shops, and discover Bourton on the Water. The picture-perfect village with honey-hued stone architecture and five arched bridges over the River Windrush is something to behold. On this tour, you will enjoy a delicious Cream Tea at Blenheim Palace, consisting of scones with jam and clotted cream, and hot tea.
