Description
Dive head first in to the beautiful lily pad-filled ponds of Monet’s masterpieces, or wander along the warm country roads of Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot in this unique and exclusive collection of Pre-Impressionist, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art.

Featuring 60 works by Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas and more, the exhibition includes an array of fascinating works by inspirational artists. The key highlight is a spectacular series of Post-Impressionist works by Paul Gauguin that span his entire career.

The Impressionist movement began in the 19th century with a focus on small brushstrokes, light, movement and nature and ordinary everyday subjects as its key components. Contrasting with the idea that subjects for great works of art needed to be grand and extravagant, the Impressionists were interested in capturing their true impression of how light and colour changed in the world around them. The exhibit ends with a lifetime of work from Gauguin, who reacted against Impressionism in its original form and helped create Post-Impressionism, rejecting the focus on nature, preferring to focus on imaginative subject matter but retaining an interest in intense light and colour.
